Why I started Public Servants LLC
A note from Ashleigh Axios on designing systems that serve—and showing up differently for public work
I’ve always believed that public work—when done well—can be one of the most powerful expressions of care.
And yet, we’ve all seen where systems fall short: policies that overpromise and underdeliver. Services that confuse or exclude. Institutions that don’t reflect the people they’re meant to serve.
Public Servants LLC was created to help bridge those gaps—with design, strategy, and a steadfast belief in the public good.
A throughline
Over the last 15+ years, I’ve worked at the intersection of design and public service—from national digital strategy to organizational transformation. I’ve led teams building tools for millions of users, shaped design practices inside public institutions, and navigated the complexities of real-world impact.
Through all of it, I’ve seen the power of public servants: people who show up every day to solve problems that matter. People who serve their communities with courage and care, often with limited resources and under immense pressure.
Public Servants LLC is my way of showing up alongside them—with purpose, humility, and a commitment to better outcomes.
What sets us apart
There are many talented firms doing public sector work—but we’re not just here to deliver projects.
We’re here to help institutions earn trust, reduce harm, and co-create durable solutions with the people most impacted. That takes more than process. It takes principled partnerships. Clear-eyed strategy. Deep listening. And a willingness to stay with the problem.
Our work draws from modern tools and proven methods—but we don’t stop there. We question defaults, evolve best practices, and design for what’s possible, not just what’s standard.
This work isn’t always fast or flashy—but it is necessary. And it’s deeply human.
What we’re building
We’re starting small and building intentionally—collaborating with public and nonprofit leaders who want to do meaningful work differently.
Some of that work is already underway. Some of it is still taking shape. All of it is rooted in the belief that government and community systems can serve people with clarity, dignity, and care.
In closing
I’m grateful to those who’ve shaped this work with me over the years—and to those who continue to hold me accountable to the kind of work we say we do.
If you’re reading this and wondering if we might be aligned, I’d love to hear from you.
